Sunset

When asked the question: which do you prefer, sunrise or sunset? without delay I say "sunset". Living on the eastern seaboard doesn't provide the magnificent sunsets often witnessed in the west, but there are times when you can find one that catches the eye. This photo was taken on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville. The sun was actually behind me with its reflection on a shiny building in front of me.

I peeked at your blogger and saw that you prefer the "sunset". I enjoy the "sunrise" most. It symbolizes the beginning of a new day - after the dark of night, the darkness of the soul - the sun will always rise again! I am grateful for each new day.

"Spirit who comes out of the East.
come to me with the power of the rising sun.
Let there be light in my word.
Let there be light on the path that I walk.
Let me remember always that you give the gift of a
new day.
Never let me be burdened with sorrow by not
starting over.

and for the "sunset"

Great life-giving Spirit,
I face the West,
the direction of the sundown.
Let me remember every day that the moment will come
when my sun will go down.
Never let me forget that I must fade into you
Give me beautiful color.
Give me a great sky for setting,
and when it is time to meet you.
I come in glory."

These are excerpts from a favorite Native American poem.
